Calibrate your monitor!

Graduated Gray Scale

To optimize the BRIGHTNESS and CONTRAST settings of your monitor for viewing photography:

  1. Turn your BRIGHTNESS control all the way up, then gradually turn it back down until the black at the far left begins to look solid (no visible gradation).

  2. Turn your CONTRAST control up slowly until the white at the far right has just a hint of gradation.

  3. Fine tune the adjustments so that, ideally, you have a smooth pattern from black through to white, with the gradation at the extreme ends just barely discernible.
